Welcome to Groove U!

We are one of the few, if not the only DJ program associated with a 4-year university (University of California at Davis)*. Instructors give students hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment, some of which are provided by industry sponsors. Students also learn technique (i.e. beat-matching, turntablism, etc.), on traditional turntables, CD players, and MP3 manipulation programs, as well as information concerning the business aspect of being a DJ in club, mobile, and radio.

For more information and instructions on how to register, go to the Experimental College Website.

*Non-student run program, taught by leading industry professionals

Groove Tip
Written by: DJ Karma (July 14, 2008)
For all you "Bedroom DJs" out there, sometimes it just takes a little push to get out there and share. It's definitely cool to create for yourself, but think of how much more fulfilling it can be to inspire someone else? If you're still shy about performing in front of people, start with putting your mixes on the net via file sharing sites. Get constructive (or not so constructive) feedback to help you find ways to improve for the next creation. Play for your friends at small parties and test things out. Sometimes you won't know if an idea will work in front of a crowd until you actually try it. Whatever you do, just remember- be open to always learning and developing more. Even if you fall short of your own expectations- which believe me, happens to ALL DJs, let that be motivation to improve- not to hate!
